Part 2 :The silence between them felt heavier than the street itself.

The girl held the photograph tightly in both hands, as if afraid it might disappear.

The man walked back toward her, slower now, as though the ground beneath him no longer felt real. When he saw the photo clearly, his face changed—something inside him broke quietly, without sound.

“That’s my wife,” he said hoarsely. “She died years ago.”

The girl shook her head immediately, calm and certain.

“No. My mom is alive.”

The man froze. His breath caught as if the air had turned sharp.

Then she added, in a voice too soft for what it carried:

“She told me if I ever saw your face… not to let you walk away again.”

For a long moment, neither of them moved. The golden light faded slowly between the buildings, and the street that once felt empty suddenly felt like it was holding its breath—waiting for a truth neither of them was ready to name.
