“What the hell is this?!” Ethan shouted, stumbling down the aisle.
His mother nearly fainted in the front pew.
Guests pulled out their phones instantly.
But Daniel—the older brother standing beside me at the altar—never moved.
He simply adjusted his cufflinks calmly while Ethan stared at him in horror.
“You?” Ethan barked. “You’re doing this to me?!”
Daniel finally looked at him.
“No,” he said quietly. “You did this to yourself.”
The silence that followed felt suffocating.
Ethan laughed nervously, turning toward the guests. “This is a joke, right? Scarlett, tell them this is a joke.”
But I only smiled.
“You told everyone no man could love a woman who looked damaged,” I said softly. “So I wanted to see what kind of man you really were when beauty disappeared.”
His breathing became uneven.
“You tested me?”
“No,” Daniel interrupted coldly. “You exposed yourself.”
Ethan’s eyes darted around the church as whispers spread through the crowd.
Then Daniel pulled a phone from his pocket.
“I think they deserve to hear the rest.”
He pressed play.
Ethan’s voice thundered through the church speakers.
“I deserve credit for staying with someone that hard to look at.”
Another recording played.
“Once the wedding gifts clear, I’m leaving her anyway.”
The guests gasped.
His mother covered her mouth in horror.
And then came the final recording—
the one that destroyed him completely.
“Honestly? Her scar makes everyone pity her. That’s the only reason she’s loyal.”
Ethan lunged forward furiously.
“You set me up!”
“No,” I whispered, tears finally filling my eyes. “You ruined yourself.”
Security rushed forward as guests screamed and chaos exploded through the church.
But through all the noise, Daniel gently reached for my hand.
And for the first time in months…
I didn’t feel ugly.
I didn’t feel broken.
I felt free.
Then Daniel leaned closer and whispered something that made my heart stop completely.
“I never told you why I came back to town…”
I looked up at him slowly.
His eyes softened.
“Scarlett… I came back because I never stopped loving you.”
