Part 2 : Jonathan spun around…

Sophie had fallen from the wheelchair.

Hard.

“SOFIE!”

He rushed toward her—

—but froze mid-step.

His daughter was trying to stand.

Her trembling legs shook violently beneath her as tears streamed down her face.

“Dad…” she cried. “My legs hurt…”

Jonathan stared in absolute disbelief.

For three years she hadn’t felt anything.

Not pain.
Not pressure.
Nothing.

Now she was standing.

Lauren rushed forward instantly.

“Sophie, sweetheart, sit down before you hurt yourself—”

“DON’T TOUCH HER!”

Jonathan’s roar shook the entire driveway.

Lauren stopped cold.

For the first time in their marriage…

he looked afraid of her.

The boy walked slowly closer.

“My name is Eli,” he said. “My mother worked with Lauren.”

Lauren’s face drained of color.

“Stop,” she whispered.

Eli ignored her.

“She helped test experimental drugs on terminal patients. Illegal trials. Hidden records. My sister became one of them.”

Jonathan felt sick.

“No…” he whispered.

Eli’s eyes burned with anger.

“She started recovering. Walking again. Just like Sophie.” He looked directly at Lauren. “And that terrified you.”

Lauren shook her head desperately.

“It wasn’t supposed to happen like that—”

Jonathan looked at her slowly.

“What did you do?”

Tears filled Lauren’s eyes instantly.

“She was going to expose everything,” she whispered.

Jonathan stepped back like she’d struck him.

“No…”

“I only lowered the dosage,” Lauren cried. “I swear! I never meant to kill her!”

Eli’s voice turned ice cold.

“But you did.”

Silence.

Heavy.
Crushing.

Then Sophie spoke weakly behind them.

“Mom…?”

Lauren turned toward her daughter and completely broke apart.

“I did it to save us,” she sobbed. “The company threatened everything. Our home… your father’s career… they said if I talked—”

Jonathan stared at her in horror.

“You poisoned our daughter?”

“I was trying to control the symptoms!”

“You destroyed her life!”

Sophie suddenly took another shaky step forward.

Then another.

Jonathan caught her instantly as she collapsed into his arms crying.

“I can feel my legs…” she whispered.

Lauren covered her mouth, shaking violently.

Sirens echoed faintly in the distance.

Eli had already called the police.

Jonathan held Sophie tighter than ever before while officers stormed the driveway.

Lauren looked at him one final time.

Broken.
Destroyed.

“I loved her,” she whispered.

Jonathan’s eyes filled with tears.

“You loved yourself more.”

Police lights flooded the house in red and blue as Lauren was led away in handcuffs.

And in the middle of the chaos—

Sophie moved her foot again.

This time completely on her own.
