PART 2 — The Woman Who Was Supposed to Be Dead

The man couldn’t breathe.

His name was Michael Collins.

And Sarah Collins had been declared dead after a boating accident three years earlier.

Yet this little girl knew her name.

“How do you know Sarah?” he asked.

Emma stared at him.

“She’s my mommy.”

Michael’s hands began to shake.

That was impossible.

Sarah had never mentioned having a daughter.

“Take me to her,” he said.

Emma nodded.

They drove across town to an abandoned apartment building.

The hallway smelled of mold and old paint.

Emma led him to Apartment 12.

The door slowly opened.

And Michael’s world stopped.

Standing inside was Sarah.

Alive.

Older.

Thinner.

But alive.

The woman dropped a grocery bag.

“Michael…”

Tears filled her eyes.

He could barely speak.

“You’re alive.”

Sarah collapsed into tears.

Three years earlier, she had survived the accident.

But dangerous people had been searching for her after she witnessed a crime involving millions of dollars.

To protect everyone she loved, she vanished.

She built a new life in hiding.

Then she discovered she was pregnant.

Emma’s father had disappeared before she was born.

Sarah never had a chance to contact Michael safely.

For years she lived in fear.

Until now.

Michael stepped forward.

Sarah expected anger.

Instead, he wrapped his arms around her.

Emma hugged them both.

And for the first time in years, nobody was alone.

But across the street, a black SUV sat quietly with its engine running.

Someone inside lowered a camera.

And took a picture of Sarah.

Because the people she had been hiding from had finally found her.
