“What is this?”
Vanessa lunged for it.
“Give it back!”
Too late.
On the back was an address.
A remote property outside the city.
David immediately grabbed Lily and drove there.
Vanessa followed behind in panic.
Rain began pouring from the sky.
When they arrived, David saw an abandoned greenhouse surrounded by dead rose bushes.
The ground near the roses looked freshly dug.
His heart pounded.
He found a shovel.
And started digging.
Vanessa screamed.
“STOP!”
But David kept digging.
Three feet down, the shovel struck metal.
CLANG.
He uncovered a locked steel box.
Inside were documents.
Dozens of them.
Life insurance papers.
Bank transfers.
Forged custody forms.
Every document pointed to the same horrifying truth.
Vanessa had been planning to get rid of Lily.
And after that…
She would inherit millions from David.
Lily burst into tears.
“Daddy…”
David hugged her tightly.
“You’re safe now.”
Police sirens echoed in the distance.
Vanessa tried to run.
She made it only a few steps.
Officers surrounded her.
As they placed handcuffs on her wrists, she stared at Lily with pure hatred.
Then Lily asked a question that stunned everyone.
“Why did you hate me so much?”
Vanessa laughed bitterly.
“Because your mother got everything I wanted.”
Silence.
Then Lily took her father’s hand.
“My mommy would have forgiven you.”
Vanessa’s smile vanished.
For the first time, she looked ashamed.
The police led her away.
David carried Lily back to the car.
The storm clouds began to clear.
And for the first time in years…
Lily wasn’t afraid to cry.
Because now she knew someone would always be there to catch her tears.
