PART 2 — The Secret They Buried

The airport fell silent.

The gray-haired man slowly approached.

Ryan’s mother looked terrified.

“Don’t,” she pleaded.

But it was too late.

The man opened the folder and showed the photograph.

Two newborn babies.

Identical twins.

Ryan stared at the picture.

The lonely boy stared too.

Then both boys looked at each other.

The truth was undeniable.

They were brothers.

Ryan’s voice shook.

“Mom… why didn’t you tell me?”

The woman burst into tears.

Twenty years earlier, she had given birth to twin boys.

But during a financial crisis, her husband had become involved with dangerous people.

One night, the family was attacked.

During the chaos, one of the babies disappeared.

The police searched for months.

Nothing.

Eventually everyone believed the child was dead.

Everyone except the gray-haired man.

He had been one of the detectives on the case.

For years he secretly continued searching.

And only days earlier he had finally found the missing boy living in a shelter.

The lonely boy looked at the woman.

“All these years… you were looking for me?”

She nodded through tears.

“Every single day.”

Ryan stepped toward his brother.

Neither knew what to say.

Then Ryan smiled.

A real smile.

And held out his hand.

The lonely boy looked at it.

For the first time in years, he felt like he belonged somewhere.

Instead of shaking Ryan’s hand, he hugged him.

The crowd around them began to applaud.

The mother wrapped her arms around both boys.

After twenty years, her family was finally together.

But as they embraced, the detective glanced at the photograph again.

Something caught his eye.

His face suddenly changed.

There was a third hospital bracelet visible in the picture.

A bracelet labeled:

BABY #3

The detective whispered,

“…That’s impossible.”
