PART 2 — The Secret That Never Died

The crowd stood frozen.

Nobody breathed.

Victor stared at the little girl as if he had seen a ghost.

“What did you say?” he whispered.

The girl stepped closer.

Tears rolled down her cheeks.

“You promised you’d come back for me.”

Victor’s knees nearly gave out.

That sentence.

Those exact words.

Only one person had ever said them.

His daughter, Emily.

Twenty years earlier.

The day of the fire.

Victor shook his head.

“No… that’s impossible.”

The girl reached into the pocket of her dress.

She pulled out a small silver necklace.

The moment Victor saw it, he gasped.

It was Emily’s necklace.

The one that had disappeared the night she died.

The crowd watched in stunned silence.

“Where did you get that?” Victor asked.

The girl’s voice trembled.

“My mother gave it to me before she died.”

Victor’s heart pounded.

“Who was your mother?”

The girl swallowed.

“Emily Hale.”

The world seemed to stop.

Victor’s daughter had survived.

She hadn’t died in the fire.

She had escaped.

And years later, she had a child.

A child nobody knew existed.

Victor fell to his knees.

Tears streamed down his face.

The little girl ran into his arms.

The crowd erupted in emotion.

But at that exact moment…

A black SUV sped through the ranch gates.

Several armed men jumped out.

One pointed directly at the girl.

“There she is!”

Victor’s blood turned cold.

The leader raised a gun.

“Take the child.”
