Part 2 : Three months later, Owen looked terrified.

The fraud investigation had moved quickly.

Bank records.

Security footage.

Forged signatures.

Witness statements.

Everything pointed directly at him and Phoebe.

For the first time since their marriage, Owen stopped acting confident.

Instead, he begged.

“Selene, please. My mother convinced me. We can fix this.”

She simply looked at him.

“No. You can face the consequences.”

The truth finally emerged.

Phoebe had accumulated enormous gambling debts.

When creditors began demanding payment, she panicked.

Rather than sell her designer handbags, jewelry, or luxury vacations, she convinced Owen to use Selene’s inheritance.

Then, when the money ran out, they sold the SUV.

The betrayal had been happening for nearly a year.

The man Selene loved had chosen his mother every single time.

Six months later, the divorce was finalized.

The court ordered restitution.

Most of the stolen money was recovered after Phoebe was forced to sell her house and other assets.

On the day everything ended, Selene visited her grandmother’s grave.

She placed fresh white roses beside the headstone.

“I finally listened to your advice,” she whispered.

The same advice Gertrude had given her on her wedding day.

“Never depend on someone who benefits from your weakness.”

As she turned to leave, her phone buzzed.

A message from a real estate agency.

A promotion.

Regional Director.

Double the salary.

Company vehicle included.

Selene smiled for the first time in months.

Owen and Phoebe had believed they were taking away her freedom.

Instead, they had given her the reason to reclaim it.

And as she drove away in her new company SUV, she realized something priceless:

They hadn’t stolen her future.

They had only removed the people who were standing in its way.
