Less than three minutes later, footsteps echoed down the hallway.
The door opened.
Maverick’s parents walked in first.
Behind them came Amy’s parents.
Then grandparents, siblings, cousins, and even the wedding officiant.
The room fell completely silent.
Mrs. Bennett looked from Maverick to Penelope, then to the wedding dress still wrapped around Amy.
She didn’t need an explanation.
The truth was lying on the floor.
Maverick dropped to his knees.
“Mom… please…”
His father slowly removed the wedding ring from his pocket.
“I was supposed to give this to you after the ceremony,” he said quietly.
Instead, he placed it in Amy’s hand.
“You deserved a son who knew what loyalty meant.”
Penelope burst into tears.
“I’m sorry… it was a mistake.”
Amy finally spoke.
“No.”
“You made a choice.”
She handed her bouquet to a little flower girl standing in the doorway.
“Someone else deserves beautiful memories today.”
Without another word, Amy walked out of Room 237.
Every guest watched her leave.
No one followed Maverick.
No one defended Penelope.
The wedding never happened.
But years later, people still talked about the bride who lost a fiancé…
…and walked away with her dignity instead.
