Ethan stared at the little girl, unable to breathe.
“Who told you your father’s name?” he whispered.
“My mommy,” she answered. “She says Daddy promised he’d come home.”
Before Ethan could speak again, a frightened woman ran out of a nearby house.
“Lily!”
She pulled the little girl behind her and froze when she recognized Ethan.
“You…”
Her face turned pale.
“You were never supposed to find us.”
Ethan’s voice cracked.
“Sarah… Daniel is alive?”
Tears filled her eyes.
“They made everyone believe he died.”
“Who?”
Before she could answer—
A black sedan across the street roared to life.
The driver slammed the accelerator.
Ethan’s security guards reacted instantly.
“Protect them!”
The sedan sped away.
One guard managed to pull open the rear door before it escaped.
Inside was a folder.
Ethan opened it with shaking hands.
The first page contained only one sentence.
DANIEL VALE IS ALIVE.
The second page contained a recent photograph.
Daniel stood in front of an abandoned warehouse…
Looking directly into the camera.
And written across the bottom in red ink were six chilling words:
“HE KNOWS YOU’RE COMING NEXT.”
