“It belongs to Sergeant Daniel Hale.”
Mara’s eyes filled with tears.
“My father…”
The soldier nodded.
“He died shielding Captain Mara from an explosion.”
The judge looked at the brother.
“Then why were you claiming her medals were fake?”
The prosecutor placed a bank statement onto the screen.
“Because he was paid to destroy her reputation.”
The courtroom erupted.
The mother slowly turned toward her son.
“You… lied to me?”
He backed away in panic.
“I never thought anyone would survive that mission.”
The judge slammed the gavel.
“Mr. Hale, you are under arrest for fraud, perjury, and conspiracy.”
As officers handcuffed him, he looked at Mara.
“I’m sorry…”
Mara stood silently, touching the scar on her chest.
“I didn’t come here for revenge.”
She looked at the soldiers beside her.
“I came so the truth would finally wear the medals.”
The courtroom rose to its feet in applause.
