My son, Julian, has always had a kind heart.

He’s seventeen, does well in school, stays out of trouble, and notices when someone around him is hurting.

He eventually started dating Clara, the daughter of one of my closest friends.

I was happy for them. They were wonderful together, and it was clear how deeply they cared about each other.

Then, a few months ago, Clara was diagnosed with c@nc3r.

One moment they were talking about college and planning weekend dates. The next, Clara’s life revolved around hospitals, treatments, and test results.

Julian was devastated.

I could see how helpless he felt watching someone he loved suffer through something he couldn’t take away.

But he never left her side.

He visited whenever possible, brought her favorite snacks, helped with schoolwork, and sat with her for hours.

When the treatments caused Clara to start losing her hair, she tried to act strong, but everyone could see how much it hurt her.

Then one evening, Julian came downstairs with his head completely shaved.

I stared at him in shock.

He simply said he wanted Clara to know that BEAUTY wasn’t in her hair and that she would never have to face this alone.

I was overwhelmed with pride.

It was one of the most loving things I had ever seen him do.

I thought that was the end of it.

The next afternoon, Clara’s mother called.

Before I could ask whether Clara was all right, she said:

“You need to come to the hospital and see what your son did.”…
