“What do you mean?”
The older man reached for his phone.
“I mean this camera has been recording you since the moment you opened my suitcase.”
The officer looked up at the camera.
His hands began shaking.
“You don’t understand…”
“No,” the older man interrupted softly.
“You don’t understand who you were trying to frame.”
The officer lowered his voice.
“Please…”
For the first time, the older man’s expression changed.
It wasn’t anger.
It was disappointment.
“My son was an airport security officer.”
The officer stared at him.
“He died eight months ago.”
The older man paused, fighting back tears.
“He spent his final months investigating officers who were planting evidence on innocent travelers.”
He looked directly into the officer’s eyes.
“He told me he was close to proving everything.”
The officer stepped backward.
“You knew?”
“I knew enough.”
The older man turned his phone toward him.
On the screen was footage from the security camera.
The moment the officer planted the bag.
The officer’s face collapsed.
But then the older man said something that made everyone around them go silent.
“You’re not the only one.”
He looked toward the security cameras covering the entire terminal.
“We have footage of four officers doing the exact same thing.”
The officer whispered:
“Who else knows?”
The older man slowly smiled through his tears.
“Everyone who needs to.”
Then the airport doors suddenly opened.
Federal agents walked toward the checkpoint.
The officer realized the truth too late.
He had never been investigating the man.
The man had been investigating him.
