Part 2 : Inside was a marriage certificate.

Richard’s name was printed across the top.

But my name wasn’t beside it.

The woman listed as his wife was named Rebecca Hale.

And according to the date…

Richard had married her twelve years after marrying me.

My hands started shaking.

“This is fake.”

Richard reached for the paper.

I pulled it away.

The ballroom doors suddenly opened.

A woman in a long black coat walked inside.

The little boy ran toward her.

“Mom.”

Every guest turned.

Rebecca looked directly at Richard.

He whispered:

“You weren’t supposed to come here.”

She laughed bitterly.

“No, Richard. You weren’t supposed to have two families.”

People started pulling out their phones.

I stared at the man I’d shared twenty years with.

Then Rebecca handed me another folder.

“This isn’t the worst part.”

Richard shouted:

“Don’t give her that!”

I opened it anyway.

There were bank statements, property documents, and photographs.

For years, Richard had been moving money from our accounts into companies registered under Rebecca’s name.

But one document made my stomach drop.

Our house.

The home my parents had helped me buy.

Richard had secretly used it as collateral for a massive loan.

And the loan was already in default.

I looked up at him.

“You were going to let me lose my home?”

He didn’t answer.

Rebecca did.

“No. He was planning to leave you next month.”

The room erupted.

Richard stepped toward me.

“Emma, I can explain.”

I removed my wedding ring.

“No. You can explain it to my lawyer.”

Then the little boy tugged gently at my sleeve.

“There is one more thing.”

He handed me a small photograph.

I looked down…

And suddenly understood why Richard had tried so desperately to keep that child away from me.
