Part 2 : I couldn’t move.

My sister Rachel had disappeared from my life almost nine years earlier.

She stopped answering calls, deleted every social media account, and told our parents she never wanted contact with us again.

Now she was standing in the middle of my wedding.

And apparently, her son was calling my fiancé “Dad.”

Rachel slowly walked toward the altar.

Michael backed away.

“Rachel, please…”

She laughed bitterly.

“Now you remember my name?”

I looked between them.

“What is happening?”

Rachel opened her handbag and placed a folder on the table beside the wedding cake.

Inside were photographs, letters, and hospital documents.

Then she looked directly at me.

“Michael and I were married.”

My stomach dropped.

Michael immediately shouted:

“That marriage ended years ago!”

Rachel shook her head.

“No, Michael. You disappeared before signing the divorce papers.”

Guests began whispering.

I turned toward him.

“You told me you’d never been married.”

Michael said nothing.

Rachel continued.

“And Ethan isn’t the only secret.”

Michael’s mother suddenly shouted:

“Rachel, stop!”

But Rachel reached into the folder and pulled out one final document.

She handed it to me.

It was a birth certificate.

I read the father’s name.

Michael Carter.

Then I read the mother’s name.

And my knees nearly gave out.

It wasn’t Rachel’s name.

It was my mother’s.

I looked across the ballroom at my mother.

She was crying.

“Mom… explain this.”

She covered her mouth.

Michael whispered:

“Please don’t do this here.”

Rachel looked at me and said:

“You still don’t understand, do you?”

She pointed at Michael.

“He didn’t choose you by accident.”

Then she leaned close and whispered:

“He married into this family because he was looking for the child your mother hid thirty years ago
