The ballroom froze.
Richard looked from Sophia to the young man.
“You know him?” he demanded.
Sophia couldn’t speak.
The man stepped onto the stage.
“My name is Daniel Carter.”
Whispers swept through the room.
Several older guests looked horrified.
Richard’s expression changed instantly.
Fear.
Real fear.
Daniel turned to the crowd.
“Fifteen years ago, Richard Hale stole a company worth hundreds of millions of dollars.”
The room erupted.
Richard lunged toward him.
“That’s a lie!”
Daniel calmly pulled a folder from his jacket.
“Is it?”
He handed copies to several reporters attending the gala.
The reporters quickly scanned the documents.
One of them gasped.
The signatures were real.
The evidence was undeniable.
Sophia stared at Richard.
“Tell me he’s lying.”
Richard said nothing.
That silence was all the answer she needed.
Daniel looked at Sophia.
“Your father built that company.”
Sophia’s eyes widened.
“What?”
Richard had spent years claiming her father left nothing behind.
Daniel shook his head.
“He didn’t. Richard stole everything after his death.”
The reporters rushed forward.
Cameras flashed.
Guests whispered in shock.
Richard backed away.
His empire was collapsing in front of hundreds of witnesses.
Then Daniel revealed the final secret.
“There is one more thing.”
The room became silent again.
He looked directly at Sophia.
“I didn’t come back for revenge.”
She stared at him.
“Then why?”
Daniel smiled softly.
“Because your father left the company to you.”
The ballroom erupted louder than ever.
And for the first time that night, Richard Hale realized he had just lost everything.
