The wine bottle exploded across the marble floor.
Everyone turned.
The waiter stared at the boy in disbelief.
“It… it can’t be you,” he whispered.
The woman jumped to her feet.
“Take him away!” she shouted.
But the wealthy man stood between them.
“No one touches him.”
The boy slowly reached into the pocket of his worn jacket and pulled out a tiny silver bracelet.
The woman turned pale.
It was identical to the one her missing son had worn years ago.
“I wasn’t lost,” the boy said, tears filling his eyes.
“You left me.”
The terrace fell silent.
The waiter lowered his head.
“I saw everything that night,” he confessed. “She paid someone to make everyone believe the boy had disappeared.”
The man looked at the woman with horror.
“You told me he drowned…”
The woman couldn’t answer.
Police officers, already called by restaurant security after the disturbance, stepped onto the terrace.
As they approached, the boy reached for the man’s hand.
The man squeezed it tightly.
“I’ll never let you go again.”
The woman watched in silence as the truth she had buried for years finally caught up with her.
