PART 2 : Victor stood frozen in the middle of the hall.

He couldn’t take his eyes off the little girl.

“No…” he whispered. “My daughter died twenty years ago.”

The girl shook her head.

“You were told I died.”

Victor’s heart stopped.

“What are you talking about?”

She reached into the pocket of her old blue dress and pulled out a small, burned golden locket.

Victor immediately recognized it.

His hands began to tremble.

He had given that locket to his daughter on her seventh birthday.

Inside was a tiny photograph of the two of them.

Victor stepped closer.

“Where did you get that?”

The girl looked at him through tears.

“Mom gave it to me.”

Victor’s voice broke.

“Your mother…?”

“She told me never to look for you.”

Victor slowly fell to his knees.

Twenty years earlier, Victor’s wife had told him their little girl had died in the fire.

He had believed her.

He had spent years drowning his grief in money, business, and loneliness.

But the truth was far darker.

His wife had survived the fire with their daughter.

She had taken the child and disappeared because she believed Victor’s enemies would eventually find them.

The girl had grown up believing her father had abandoned her.

Victor reached toward her.

“I never left you…”

His voice cracked.

“I searched for you.”

The girl began sobbing.

“Then why didn’t you find me?”

Victor had no answer.

He opened his arms.

For a moment, the girl hesitated.

Then she ran toward him.

Victor hugged his daughter for the first time in twenty years.

Shadow stood quietly beside them.

The wealthy guests who had laughed at the little girl were now crying.

Victor closed his eyes and held her tighter.

“I lost twenty years,” he whispered.

The girl looked up at him.

“Then don’t lose another day.”

Victor kissed her forehead.

And for the first time in twenty years…

the richest man in the room had nothing to offer his daughter except tears, love, and the promise to never let her go again.
