PART 2 — THE MOMENT THE FILE OPENED, MY BROTHER STOPPED SMILING

The senior Army officer walked to the judge and placed the sealed folder on the bench.

“Your Honor, these records were classified until twelve o’clock today.”

The courtroom went completely silent.

My mother stared at him.

Ryan looked like he couldn’t breathe.

The judge opened the file.

The first page confirmed everything.

Twelve years of Army service.

Multiple overseas deployments.

A Silver Star.

A Purple Heart.

And a classified rescue operation that nearly killed me.

One juror covered her mouth.

My attorney slowly turned toward Ryan.

But the officer wasn’t finished.

“There’s something else.”

He removed a second envelope.

“This was submitted by Claire’s father six weeks before his death.”

Ryan suddenly stood.

“That has nothing to do with the will!”

The judge slammed the gavel.

“Sit down.”

The officer opened the envelope.

Inside were financial records from Cross Meridian Systems.

Millions of dollars had been quietly transferred through shell companies.

Every transfer led back to one person.

Ryan.

My mother whispered,

“Don’t.”

I looked at her.

That one word told me everything.

She already knew.

My father hadn’t given me control of the company because he loved me more.

He had given it to me because he had discovered Ryan was stealing from him.

Then my attorney pulled out the original will.

The handwriting expert had just confirmed something else.

My father’s signature on Ryan’s “new will” had been forged.

Ryan’s face collapsed.

The judge ordered the bailiff to lock the courtroom doors.

But before officers reached him, Ryan turned toward our mother and shouted:

“Tell them whose idea it was!”

Everyone froze.

My mother went white.

And then Ryan said the sentence that changed the entire case:

“She’s the one who told me Dad had to die before he could expose us.”

For the first time all day…

my mother had nothing to say.
