His wife, Victoria, stepped into the lobby holding the hand of a seven-year-old boy.
The child had Adrian’s eyes.
The same small scar above his eyebrow.
Even the same nervous habit of rubbing his thumb against his palm.
Adrian stood so quickly that his chair crashed onto the marble floor.
“Victoria… who is that?”
Victoria stopped walking.
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
Then the little boy looked directly at Adrian.
“Mommy… is that my real dad?”
The entire lobby went silent.
Adrian turned toward his wife.
“You told me our son died.”
Victoria’s expression changed.
“He was supposed to.”
Lily gasped.
Adrian grabbed the edge of the table.
“What did you just say?”
Victoria tried to pull the boy back toward the elevator, but Lily stepped in front of her.
“Tell him the truth.”
Victoria suddenly screamed:
“YOU WERE NEVER SUPPOSED TO COME BACK!”
Security guards rushed toward them.
But Adrian raised his hand.
“Nobody leaves.”
Lily reached into her bag and pulled out a sealed hospital envelope.
Inside was a DNA test.
99.99% probability of paternity: Adrian Hale.
Adrian stared at the paper, then at his wife.
“Why?”
Victoria’s eyes filled with tears.
“Because your father left everything to your firstborn son.”
Adrian went still.
His family trust was worth nearly $800 million.
If everyone believed the baby was dead, Victoria would eventually control the fortune.
But Lily shook her head.
“That’s not the worst part.”
She pulled out one final photograph.
Adrian looked at it…
…and nearly collapsed.
Standing beside Victoria at the hospital seven years earlier was the one person Adrian trusted more than anyone in the world.
His own mother.
And written on the back were four words:
“Both women agreed.”
Adrian slowly lifted his eyes.
“My mother knew?”
Then a cold voice came from behind him:
“Knew?”
Everyone turned.
An elderly woman stood at the hotel entrance.
Adrian’s mother smiled calmly.
“I planned the whole thing.”
And that was when the boy suddenly pointed at her and screamed:
“THAT’S THE WOMAN WHO KEPT ME LOCKED IN THE HOUSE!”
