“EMILY!”
Emily was lying inside, barely conscious.
Her eyes slowly opened.
Daniel pulled her into his arms, crying uncontrollably.
“I thought I lost you…”
Emily could barely speak.
“Daniel… they tried to make sure I never woke up.”
Everyone froze.
Daniel looked at Maria.
“What is she talking about?”
Maria began crying.
“Your wife wasn’t supposed to die.”
Emily slowly lifted her hand and pointed toward a man standing near the chapel doors.
Daniel turned.
It was his business partner, Victor.
Victor immediately tried to leave.
“STOP!”
Security blocked the doors.
Emily whispered:
“He changed my medication… because he wanted your company.”
Daniel stared at Victor in disbelief.
“You tried to kill my wife?”
Victor said nothing.
Maria stepped forward.
“I discovered the medication bottle in the trash. When I realized Emily was still breathing, I knew I had only minutes.”
Daniel looked at Maria, tears running down his face.
“You saved her.”
Maria shook her head.
“I only did what anyone should have done.”
Emily reached for Maria’s hand.
“No…”
She smiled weakly.
“You gave me my life back.”
Daniel looked at both women and broke down in tears.
That day, the funeral never happened.
Instead, the chapel became the place where Emily got a second chance at life.
And before the police took Victor away, he looked at Daniel and whispered:
“You still don’t know who ordered me to do it.”
Daniel’s smile disappeared.
Emily looked at him in fear.
The real mystery had only just begun.
