Adrian’s mother froze.
Her face turned white.
“He’s lying!” she screamed.
But my father’s video continued.
“Adrian came to me six months before my death. He wanted money. A lot of money.”
Adrian crawled toward me.
“Mia… please…”
I stepped back.
The video kept playing.
“When I refused, his mother said something I’ll never forget…”
The recording switched to audio.
A woman’s voice.
Cold.
Cruel.
“If he marries Mia after you’re gone, everything becomes his.”
The entire room stared at Adrian’s mother.
Someone whispered:
“Oh my God…”
Adrian buried his face in his hands.
“Mom… why didn’t you tell me you kept the recording?”
Silence.
Absolute silence.
Because he realized what he had just said.
Slowly, he lifted his head.
Too late.
Way too late.
I looked into his eyes.
The same eyes I once thought I would grow old beside.
“You just confessed.”
And suddenly, police officers walked into the ballroom.
Because I hadn’t come to the wedding alone.
