“Why?” I asked quietly.
She didn’t answer.
Because the door opened.
And the woman stepped inside.
Time didn’t just stop.
It collapsed.
She looked exactly like someone I used to be.
Someone I buried years ago.
Her eyes locked onto mine…
And then dropped instantly to my ring.
Silence.
The entire restaurant disappeared again.
She whispered, almost breaking:
“You still have it…”
My throat tightened.
Because I knew that voice.
I knew those eyes.
And I knew the truth I had spent 13 years trying to forget.
The girl looked between us and said softly:
“Mom… you said she was gone.”
The woman took one step closer.
And said the words that destroyed everything:
