But Rex refused to leave the old man’s side.
Every time an officer stepped closer, the dog growled viciously.
The homeless man slowly stood up.
His legs trembled from age and exhaustion.
Then he looked directly at the young officer holding the photo.
“They lied to all of you.”
The officer frowned.
“Who are you?”
The old man took a deep breath.
“Captain Elias Ward.”
The name hit the officers like lightning.
Captain Ward was a military hero.
Officially dead for ten years.
The man who supposedly sacrificed himself during a classified mission overseas.
But now…
He was standing right in front of them.
Alive.
The crowd began recording everything on their phones.
One officer whispered nervously:
“Why would the government fake a hero’s death?”
Elias looked down at Rex.
The dog pressed against him protectively.
Then Elias said quietly:
“Because I discovered what they were really doing.”
The officers exchanged uncomfortable looks.
Sirens echoed closer.
Black SUVs suddenly arrived at the edge of the park.
Men in dark suits stepped out.
No badges.
No names.
One of them shouted:
“Take the dog. Take the man.”
Rex instantly snarled.
The crowd backed away in fear.
The young officer looked confused.
“Who ARE these people?”
Elias smiled sadly.
“The reason I had to disappear.”
One suited man suddenly pulled out a gun.
The crowd screamed.
But before anyone could react—
Rex attacked.
Chaos exploded across the park.
Phones dropped. Officers shouted. Children cried.
And in the middle of the panic…
Elias turned to the young officer and handed him a small flash drive.
“If they catch me again,” he whispered,
“show the world what’s inside.”
Gunshots echoed.
The screen cuts to black.
THE END… OR JUST THE BEGINNING?
