“Daniel.”
The man’s face went completely pale.
He couldn’t breathe.
Daniel.
That was his name.
The name he had spent years trying to forget.
The name belonging to the life he had abandoned fifteen years earlier.
He stared at the little girl.
“Who is your mother?”
The girl hesitated.
Then she reached into her worn little dress and pulled out an old photograph.
The man took it with shaking hands.
His heart nearly stopped.
It was a picture of a young woman.
His first love.
The woman he had been told had disappeared after he left the city.
But behind the photograph was a handwritten sentence:
“I never told you about your daughter because I thought you had chosen money over us.”
His eyes filled with tears.
He looked at the little girl.
“What is your name?”
She smiled sadly.
“Emma.”
The man dropped to his knees.
Fifteen years ago, he had lost everything because he believed money could replace love.
Now, standing in front of him was the daughter he never knew existed.
Emma reached for his hand.
Then she asked the one question he was terrified to answer:
“Daddy… why did you leave us?”
He broke down completely.
And for the first time in fifteen years, he finally told the truth.
“Because I was young… and I was afraid. But I never stopped looking for you.”
Emma hugged him.
The man held his daughter tightly, crying into her shoulder.
And then, from across the street, a woman’s voice suddenly called:
“Emma!”
The man slowly turned around.
His blood ran cold.
Because he knew that voice.
It was the voice of the woman he had loved…
the woman he thought was gone forever.
And she was standing there, staring directly at him.
