Guests screamed and dropped to the floor.
Lena froze.
But she wasn’t hit.
Sophia had pushed her aside at the last second.
The bullet shattered a crystal chandelier instead.
Glass rained from the ceiling.
“RUN!” Sophia shouted.
The sisters sprinted through a hidden doorway behind the staircase.
Behind them, the armed men gave chase.
They raced through secret tunnels beneath the mansion.
Finally, they reached an underground chamber.
Lena grabbed Sophia’s shoulders.
“Tell me the truth! Why did everyone say you were dead?”
Sophia took a shaky breath.
“Because I discovered something.”
“What?”
“Our family isn’t rich because of business.”
Lena stared at her.
“Then why?”
Sophia handed her a flash drive.
“Because they’ve been laundering money for powerful criminals for years.”
Lena’s heart stopped.
“The night of the accident, I found proof. They tried to kill me. I escaped and went into hiding.”
Footsteps echoed through the tunnel.
The men were getting closer.
Sophia looked at Lena.
“I stayed away to protect you.”
Tears rolled down Lena’s face.
All those years.
All that pain.
All those lies.
Then police sirens suddenly echoed above them.
Sophia smiled.
“It’s over.”
Moments later, officers stormed the mansion.
The criminals were arrested.
The truth finally came out.
Months later, Lena and Sophia stood together on a beach at sunrise.
For the first time in six years, they were free.
Sophia smiled.
“We got our lives back.”
Lena nodded.
Then her phone vibrated.
A new message appeared from an unknown number.
Three words.
“You missed one.”
Lena’s smile vanished.
The sender attached a photograph.
Someone from the mansion was still out there.
Watching.
