He walked slowly toward the desk, eyes locked on the girl.
Man: “How long has she been standing here?”
The receptionist finally looked up, irritated.
Receptionist: “Sir, she has no appointment—”
Man: “I didn’t ask that.”
Silence dropped instantly.
The girl swayed slightly.
Girl (weak): “It hurts…”
The man crouched beside her.
Man: “Hey… look at me. You’re safe now.”
He turned sharply to the receptionist.
Man: “Call a doctor. Now.”
Receptionist: “Sir, protocol—”
His voice cut through the room.
Man: “Forget your protocol. She’s a child.”
That word changed everything.
People finally looked. Really looked.
A woman covered her mouth. The man in the suit stood up slowly, uncomfortable.
The receptionist hesitated.
Then finally reached for the phone.
But it was too late for indifference to survive.
The girl’s hand slipped into the man’s sleeve.
Girl (whispering): “You… believe me?”
He didn’t hesitate.
Man: “Yes.”
And for the first time in that perfect, silent lobby—
someone finally broke the rules of silence.
