Her face lost all color the moment she saw the woman standing beside the giant glass windows overlooking the city.
But something felt strange.
The woman wasn’t alone.
A little girl around seven years old ran into the room and hugged her.
“Mom!”
The blonde stared.
The woman looked at her and said quietly,
“Ten years ago… I came into another store wearing old clothes with my daughter.”
The blonde frowned.
The woman slowly opened a photo frame on her desk.
The blonde’s eyes widened.
It was her.
“You laughed at us back then too.”
Silence.
Tears formed in the blonde’s eyes.
“You… remembered me?”
The woman nodded.
“I remembered how people treated me when I had nothing.”
The blonde lowered her head.
“I am so sorry…”
The woman stared at her for several seconds.
Then she said:
“You’re fired.”
The blonde looked up in shock.
But then the woman continued:
“…from sales.”
She slid a folder across the desk.
“Starting Monday, you’re joining our charity program.”
The blonde blinked.
“What?”
“You’re going to spend six months helping people you’ve ignored your entire life.”
The woman smiled slightly.
“Because some lessons cost more than money.”
