Not physically—but something deeper. Dangerous.
The man—Alexander—dropped to his knees in front of the boy, eyes scanning his face with growing horror.
Same eyes.
Same features.
Impossible.
“Where is your mother?” he demanded, voice shaking.
The boy hesitated.
“She said… you left us.”
The words hit harder than anything.
Guests began whispering now. Security moved closer, sensing tension.
Alexander’s voice cracked.
“No… I didn’t leave. She disappeared.”
The boy shook his head.
“No. She said they took you.”
A pause.
A long, suffocating pause.
“Who took me?” Alexander whispered.
The boy slowly pointed.
Not at the door.
Not outside.
But behind him.
Toward the people in the room.
Toward the power.
Toward the ones who had been watching everything.
Alexander turned.
And suddenly—
The receptionist wasn’t just a receptionist anymore.
Her expression had changed.
Cold.
Controlled.
Watching.
“Sir,” she said quietly, stepping forward, “this situation is inappropriate.”
But Alexander saw it now.
Too calm.
Too precise.
Too involved.
“You knew,” he said.
She didn’t deny it.
Instead, she smiled slightly.
“We were hoping this day wouldn’t come.”
Security closed in.
The guests were no longer pretending not to look.
Everything had been staged.
Everything controlled.
Alexander grabbed the boy protectively.
“What did you do to her?” he demanded.
The receptionist leaned closer, her voice barely above a whisper:
“She was never meant to keep him.”
The boy clutched Alexander’s coat tightly now.
“I found her,” the boy whispered. “She was sleeping… but she wouldn’t wake up…”
Alexander froze.
“No…”
“And she said… if something happens… find you.”
The world cracked.
Alexander stood slowly, rage replacing shock.
“You made a mistake,” he said quietly.
The receptionist tilted her head.
“No, Mr. Alexander… the mistake was letting him walk in.”
Security reached for him—
But they hesitated.
Because something in Alexander’s eyes had changed.
Not fear.
Not confusion.
Power.
The kind they couldn’t control anymore.
He looked down at the boy.
Then back at them.
“You took everything from me,” he said.
A beat.
“And now you brought it back.”
The lights flickered.
Thunder exploded outside.
And for the first time—
The people in control looked afraid.
To be continued…
