PART 2 — The Secret Hidden for Ten Years

The ballroom remained frozen in shock.

Evelyn stood on trembling legs, staring at the boy.

“Who is your mother?” she whispered.

The boy reached into his worn jacket and pulled out an old silver necklace.

The moment Evelyn saw it, her eyes filled with tears.

“No…” she breathed.

“It can’t be.”

The necklace had belonged to Sarah Monroe—Evelyn’s best friend.

The woman who vanished ten years ago without a trace.

“My mother gave me this before she died,” the boy said.

“She told me to find you.”

Evelyn’s hands shook.

“What happened to her?”

The boy swallowed hard.

“She never abandoned you.”

The room was silent.

“She was trying to protect you.”

Evelyn felt the world spin.

“Protect me from who?”

The boy slowly pointed toward the stage.

Toward the chairman of the Hart Foundation.

Toward the man everyone admired.

Toward Evelyn’s own uncle.

“He was there the night she disappeared.”

The chairman’s face drained of color.

Guests turned toward him.

Then the boy revealed one final photograph.

A photo taken ten years earlier.

It showed Sarah.

It showed Evelyn.

And standing behind them in the shadows was Evelyn’s uncle.

Holding the same cane he still carried today.

The crowd gasped.

The uncle lunged forward.

“Give me that photo!”

But before anyone could move, the ballroom doors burst open.

Police officers entered.

And the lead detective raised a warrant.

“Evelyn Hart,” he said, looking at the photograph.

“We finally know where to start.”
