The bakery stood frozen.
Emily stared at the stranger.
“What did you say?”
The man stepped closer, unable to take his eyes off Noah.
“My name is Daniel Carter,” he said quietly. “Seven years ago, my younger brother disappeared before he could meet his newborn son.”
Emily’s heart began pounding.
Daniel held out the photograph.
On the back was a name.
Noah.
Tears instantly filled Emily’s eyes.
“How do you know that name?”
Daniel swallowed hard.
“Because my brother wrote it before he died.”
The room went silent.
Emily’s legs nearly gave out.
For seven years she had believed Noah’s father had abandoned them.
But now she was learning the truth.
Daniel’s eyes filled with tears.
“He never left you,” he said. “He spent months searching for you after the hospital mix-up. He died in an accident before he could find you.”
Emily began to cry.
Noah looked between them, confused.
Daniel knelt beside him.
“You have a whole family that has been looking for you for years.”
Noah blinked.
“A family?”
Daniel smiled through tears.
“Yes.”
The little boy wrapped his arms around him.
And for the first time in years, Emily felt something she thought she had lost forever.
Hope.
Meanwhile, the employee who had humiliated them stood speechless.
Daniel slowly turned toward him.
Then he placed a black credit card on the counter.
“I’d like to buy every cake in this bakery.”
The employee’s eyes widened.
Daniel looked at Noah and smiled.
“Because nobody should ever feel unwanted on their birthday.”
The bakery erupted into applause.
And Noah’s seventh birthday became the day his family finally found him
