For one long second, nobody moved.
Then the stranger bolted toward the exit.
The biker shoved the girl behind him and sprinted after the man.
Outside, the stranger jumped into a black SUV, but the biker ripped open the driver’s door before it could pull away.
A violent struggle followed.
The pendant fell onto the pavement.
As the stranger reached for it, the biker saw a photograph sticking out of his jacket.
It showed Sarah.
Alive.
The photo had been taken only two weeks earlier.
The stranger finally broke.
“You don’t understand,” he shouted. “She ran because she was protecting the child!”
The biker’s heart pounded.
“Where is she?”
The man slowly pointed toward an abandoned farmhouse outside town.
By the time the biker and the little girl arrived, police cars already surrounded the property.
The front door opened.
A weak woman stepped into the sunlight.
The little girl burst into tears.
“Mom!”
Sarah dropped to her knees and wrapped her daughter in the tightest embrace imaginable.
Then she looked up at the biker.
“I knew,” she whispered. “I knew you’d recognize the wolf.”
The broken pendant clicked together in his hands, finally complete after twelve years.
Only then did everyone understand the truth.
The little girl had never found a stranger.
She had found the only man her mother had trusted to save her.
