The roar of engines grew louder every second.
Victor stared down the road.
Then the first black SUV appeared.
Another followed.
Then another.
Six vehicles thundered onto the street.
Neighbors stepped outside their homes.
Children stopped playing.
Everyone watched.
The convoy surrounded Victor’s sedan.
Doors opened simultaneously.
Men and women in tactical uniforms stepped out.
Victor’s face turned pale.
“What is this?” he demanded.
Nobody answered him.
A final vehicle stopped.
The driver’s door opened.
Liam’s father stepped out.
David Carter.
Victor immediately took a step backward.
“No…” he muttered.
Liam looked confused.
“Dad?”
David walked calmly toward them.
His expression never changed.
“You should’ve stayed away from my son.”
Victor laughed nervously.
“You never told him?”
“Told me what?” Liam asked.
David looked at his son.
For years Liam believed his father was an ordinary businessman.
He wasn’t.
Not even close.
“Son,” David said quietly, “I work for a federal security agency.”
Liam’s eyes widened.
Victor’s shoulders slumped.
The game was over.
David continued.
“Three years ago, Victor stole millions of dollars from a witness protection program. When we started investigating, he disappeared.”
Victor tried to run.
Two agents grabbed him instantly.
“It’s over, Victor.”
Neighbors watched in stunned silence as handcuffs clicked around his wrists.
Victor glared at Liam.
“This isn’t finished.”
David smiled.
“Actually, it is.”
Victor was escorted into an SUV.
The convoy prepared to leave.
Liam looked at his father.
“You knew all this time?”
David nodded.
“I was gathering evidence. The moment he approached you today, we had everything we needed.”
For the first time in weeks, Liam felt the weight lift from his shoulders.
The fear was gone.
The black sedan was gone.
And the man who haunted him was finally gone too.
As father and son walked home together beneath the golden sunlight, Liam realized something.
Sometimes the people protecting you are fighting battles you can’t even see.
And sometimes…
Help is already on the way.
