Part 2: The Truth About the Twins

“Get in. Now.”

The old man’s voice was cold and commanding.

The homeless boy stepped back.

“You!” he shouted. “You’re the man Grandma warned me about!”

People on the sidewalk began slowing down to watch.

Victoria felt sick.

“Dad,” she whispered. “Tell me this isn’t true.”

The old man sighed heavily.

“It was supposed to stay buried.”

Ethan looked confused.

“Someone tell me what’s happening!”

The homeless boy clenched the locket.

“Tell him.”

The old man lowered his head.

Eight years earlier, Victoria had given birth to twin boys.

But her husband had died in a business scandal before they were born.

Victoria had no money.

No support.

No future.

Desperate and terrified, she had agreed to let her wealthy father arrange a private adoption for one of the babies.

“He promised me my son would have a better life,” Victoria cried.

The homeless boy shook his head.

“He lied.”

The old man closed his eyes.

“The family changed their minds. They abandoned him after a few years.”

Victoria gasped.

“What?”

“I searched for him,” the old man said quietly. “But by the time I found him, he was already living on the streets.”

The homeless boy’s eyes filled with tears.

“You found me… and did nothing.”

The old man couldn’t answer.

The silence said everything.

Ethan slowly walked toward the boy.

“So you’re really my brother?”

The homeless child nodded.

For several seconds neither moved.

Then Ethan wrapped his arms around him.

The crowd fell silent.

The boy froze in shock before hugging him back.

Victoria collapsed to her knees, sobbing.

“I’m so sorry,” she cried. “I should have found you.”

The homeless boy looked at her for a long moment.

Then he quietly asked,

“Do you really want me now?”

Victoria stood and pulled him into her arms.

“You were never unwanted.”

For the first time in years, the boy allowed himself to believe it.

And as the twins stood together beneath the Manhattan skyline, the grandfather watched in silence—knowing that no amount of money could ever undo what he had stolen from them.
