PART 2 — The Truth Behind Sarah’s Death

That night, David couldn’t sleep.

Lily’s words echoed in his mind.

“Nobody would ever discover what really happened…”

At 2 a.m., he quietly entered Vanessa’s home office.

For two years, he had never touched her things.

Tonight was different.

Inside a locked drawer, he found an old phone.

His hands shook as he turned it on.

Hundreds of deleted messages appeared.

Most were harmless.

Then one conversation froze his blood.

A message sent three years earlier.

The night Sarah died.

“Everything is ready. Once the brakes fail, nobody will suspect a thing.”

David stared at the screen.

His heart nearly stopped.

The sender’s name was hidden, but the reply came from Vanessa.

“Good. Tomorrow, David will finally be mine.”

David felt sick.

Suddenly, a voice came from the doorway.

“You weren’t supposed to find that.”

He looked up.

Vanessa stood there.

Calm.

No fear.

No excuses.

Only a cold smile.

“You killed Sarah?” David whispered.

Vanessa laughed softly.

“Not with my own hands.”

David’s knees nearly gave out.

“You loved me?”

Vanessa shook her head.

“No. I loved your money.”

At that moment, police sirens echoed outside.

Earlier that evening, David had secretly called investigators and handed them the evidence.

For the first time, Vanessa looked afraid.

Officers rushed into the room.

As they placed handcuffs on her wrists, she glared at Lily standing behind her father.

“This is your fault.”

Lily stepped closer to David.

“No,” she said bravely. “It’s yours.”

Vanessa was led away.

The next morning, sunlight filled the mansion once again.

But this time, it felt different.

Warmer.

Safer.

David knelt beside his daughter.

“I’m sorry I didn’t see the truth sooner.”

Lily hugged him tightly.

“It’s okay, Daddy.”

For the first time in years, neither of them was afraid.

And somewhere deep inside, David hoped Sarah had finally received the justice she deserved.
