PART 2: The Truth Behind Sarah’s Death

David didn’t sleep that night.

After Lily fell asleep, he sat alone in his office replaying every detail from the past three years.

The accident.

The police report.

The insurance settlement.

Vanessa entering his life only months later.

For the first time, things didn’t feel like coincidences.

They felt planned.

The next morning, David quietly hired a private investigator.

Three days later, the investigator called.

“You need to see this immediately.”

An hour later David sat in a small office staring at surveillance photos.

His hands began shaking.

One photograph showed Sarah’s car entering a parking garage the night she died.

Another showed Vanessa following behind in her own vehicle.

David looked up.

“That’s impossible.”

The investigator slid another document across the table.

“It gets worse.”

The phone records revealed dozens of calls between Vanessa and a mechanic weeks before the crash.

A mechanic who had recently disappeared.

David felt sick.

Everything pointed toward one horrifying possibility.

Sarah’s accident had never been an accident.

That evening David returned home.

Vanessa was waiting.

She smiled when she saw him.

But her smile vanished when she noticed the folder in his hand.

“David… what’s wrong?”

He tossed the photographs onto the table.

Vanessa stared at them.

For the first time, she looked afraid.

“You followed Sarah that night.”

“No.”

“You lied to me.”

“No!”

“You abused my daughter.”

Vanessa stepped backward.

David’s voice hardened.

“And I know what you did.”

Tears suddenly filled Vanessa’s eyes.

“It wasn’t supposed to happen.”

The words escaped before she realized it.

David froze.

Vanessa covered her mouth.

Too late.

The confession hung in the air.

She collapsed into a chair sobbing.

“I only wanted you to love me.”

David felt nothing.

No anger.

No sadness.

Only emptiness.

Police sirens echoed outside moments later.

The investigator had already shared the evidence.

Officers entered the mansion and placed Vanessa in handcuffs.

As they led her away, she looked at David one final time.

But he never looked back.

Instead, he walked upstairs.

Lily was sitting on her bed clutching her stuffed rabbit.

“Daddy?”

David sat beside her and wrapped his arms around her.

“Everything’s okay now.”

Lily looked up.

“Really?”

David kissed her forehead.

“Really.”

For the first time in years, the little girl smiled without fear.

Outside, the sun broke through the clouds.

And somewhere deep inside, David knew Sarah’s spirit could finally rest.

Because the truth had finally come home.
