The woman stepped off the bus.
The superstar couldn’t breathe.
“…Elena?”
She stopped.
For a few seconds, neither of them moved.
Seven years had passed, but he knew that face instantly.
The same woman he had once loved.
The same woman he had believed had disappeared forever.
Elena looked at him, then at the little boy standing beside him.
Her eyes filled with tears.
“Lucas,” she whispered.
The boy ran to her.
“Mom!”
She wrapped her arms around him tightly.
The football star stared at them in disbelief.
“Lucas?”
Elena slowly nodded.
“He’s your son.”
The man staggered backward.
“No…”
He looked at the boy again.
Those eyes.
That smile.
Even the tiny scar above his eyebrow.
It was like looking at a seven-year-old version of himself.
“You told me the baby was gone,” he said, his voice breaking.
Elena’s expression hardened.
“I told you nothing.”
“You disappeared!”
“Because your father paid me to leave.”
The superstar froze.
“My father?”
Elena pulled the hospital file from her hands.
“He came to the hospital the night Lucas was born. He told me you were about to sign the biggest contract of your life. He said I would destroy your career if I stayed.”
She opened the file.
Inside was an old photograph.
A newborn baby.
And beneath it was a document bearing the football star’s name.
Elena continued.
“He offered me money. I refused.”
“So what happened?”
“He threatened to make sure you never saw your son.”
The superstar’s jaw tightened.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I tried.”
She pulled out her phone and showed him an old message.
23 unanswered calls.
Messages.
Emails.
Letters.
All sent to him seven years ago.
He stared at the screen.
“I never received any of these.”
Elena gave a bitter smile.
“Because your father intercepted them.”
The superstar’s face changed.
His entire childhood suddenly made sense.
His father had always controlled his career.
His contracts.
His phone.
Even his schedule.
He had believed football was the only thing he had ever been good at.
But now he realized someone had made sure he never knew he had a family.
Then Lucas quietly stepped forward.
“Are you really my dad?”
The superstar looked down at him.
For the first time in years, the cameras, trophies, stadiums, and millions of dollars meant absolutely nothing.
He crouched down.
His voice trembled.
“Yes.”
Lucas stared at him.
“Then why didn’t you come?”
The question destroyed him.
He swallowed hard.
“I didn’t know you existed.”
Lucas looked toward his mother.
“She said you chose football instead of us.”
The man’s eyes filled with tears.
“I would never choose football over you.”
Then he noticed something strange.
The worn soccer ball was still lying on the grass.
He picked it up and turned it over.
There, beneath the faded handwriting, was a date.
The day Lucas was born.
And underneath it, a message written in his own handwriting:
“For my son. When you’re old enough to play, I’ll teach you everything I know.”
He stared at it.
“I wrote this…”
Elena nodded.
“You gave it to me the night before you left for training camp.”
The superstar covered his face.
He remembered.
Seven years ago.
The night he thought Elena had abandoned him.
The night his father had told him she had lost the baby.
He had spent seven years believing his son was dead.
Suddenly, the sound of approaching cars interrupted them.
A black SUV stopped near the field.
His father stepped out.
He looked at Elena.
Then at Lucas.
His expression immediately changed.
“You.”
The superstar stood up.
“Dad…”
His father said nothing.
“Tell me you didn’t do this.”
Silence.
“Tell me you didn’t steal seven years from me.”
His father finally looked away.
And that silence was enough.
The superstar’s voice broke.
“You told me my son was dead.”
“I was protecting your career.”
“My career?”
He pointed toward Lucas.
“This is my son!”
His father tried to respond.
But the superstar stepped closer.
“You didn’t protect my career.”
He looked at Elena.
“You stole my family.”
Then he turned to Lucas.
The boy was still holding the old soccer ball.
The superstar knelt beside him.
“Would you like to play?”
Lucas smiled nervously.
“With you?”
The man smiled through his tears.
“With me.”
Lucas grabbed his hand.
And for the first time in seven years, the football star walked onto the field with the person he had unknowingly been waiting for his entire life.
But just before they kicked the ball, Elena’s phone suddenly rang.
She looked at the screen.
Her face went completely pale.
The caller ID showed one name:
THE HOSPITAL.
She answered.
“Hello?”
Her expression changed.
“What?”
The superstar looked at her.
“What happened?”
Elena slowly lowered the phone.
“They found another file.”
“What file?”
She looked directly at him.
“The original DNA test from seven years ago.”
She swallowed.
“And it says Lucas…”
“…isn’t your only child.”
