David stormed upstairs while Vanessa desperately followed him.
“David, don’t listen to her!”
But he ignored every word.
Inside the office, he opened Sarah’s old desk, searching for anything that might explain Lily’s terrifying accusation.
Then he noticed something strange.
One drawer refused to open completely.
Behind it was a small hidden compartment.
Inside lay an old voice recorder.
His hands trembled as he pressed Play.
Sarah’s frightened voice filled the room.
“If anything happens to me… it wasn’t an accident. Vanessa threatened me. She wants everything…”
David’s face turned pale.
Vanessa lunged toward the recorder.
“Turn it off!”
But it was too late.
The recording continued.
“…and if you’re hearing this, please protect Lily.”
David slowly turned toward Vanessa.
For the first time, there was no fear in her eyes.
Only panic.
Police sirens echoed outside the mansion.
Lily stood in the doorway, holding the phone with trembling hands.
“I called 911,” she whispered.
Minutes later, officers escorted Vanessa away in handcuffs as she screamed that it was all a misunderstanding.
David knelt in front of Lily, tears filling his eyes.
“I’m so sorry I didn’t believe you.”
Lily wrapped her tiny arms around him.
“You came back, Daddy.”
As the police cars disappeared down the long driveway, the morning sun shined brighter than ever.
For the first time in three years…
Lily finally felt safe.
