Emma turned toward the guests, searching every face.
Then her best friend, Sophie, quietly stepped forward.
Tears filled Sophie’s eyes.
“I’m sorry… I never wanted you to find out like this.”
The crowd stood frozen.
Daniel shook his head desperately.
“No! She doesn’t know the whole story!”
Sophie opened her purse and pulled out several old photographs.
Every picture showed Daniel with another woman.
Emma could barely breathe.
Then Sophie revealed one final envelope.
“I wasn’t protecting him…”
“I was protecting you.”
Emma opened it with trembling hands.
Inside was a DNA test.
She looked at the name on the report…
Her eyes widened in horror.
