Part 2: The Truth Nobody Expected

The little girl stared at him, confused.

The manager’s hands trembled as he reached into his wallet.

Inside was an old photograph—worn, folded, nearly destroyed from years of being opened.

He turned it toward her.

The little girl’s eyes widened.

It was a woman holding a tiny child.

And the woman…

Was her mother.

“No…” the rich woman whispered.

The little girl slowly looked up.

“My mom had this picture…” she said quietly.

The manager felt his legs weaken.

“Where is she?” he asked desperately.

Tears rolled down the girl’s face.

Her lips trembled.

Then she looked directly into his eyes and whispered:

“She’s outside… waiting for me.”

The manager ran toward the glass doors.

The crowd followed.

He pushed through the entrance and looked around wildly.

Empty parking spaces.

Moving cars.

Blowing leaves.

No woman.

Nothing.

Then he heard a tiny voice behind him:

“Daddy…”

He slowly turned around—

And saw the little girl holding another photograph.

On the back, written in faded ink:

“If you ever find her… tell her I never stopped looking.”
