Part 2 — The Truth Running Barefoot

I turned.

And my world shattered.

Ethan, Noah, and Liam were running down the street toward me—barefoot, crying, their clothes torn, their small arms streaked with blood.

“MISS EMILY, WAIT!”

Behind them, Richard Hawthorne sprinted after them, panic replacing every trace of his billionaire control.

“Boys!” he shouted. “Stop!”

But they didn’t stop.

They ran straight into me.

All three collapsed against my legs, sobbing so hard they could barely breathe.

“What happened?” I whispered, dropping to my knees.

Ethan’s voice shook. “Victoria locked us in the storage room…”

Noah clutched my sleeve. “She said she’d make you disappear if we told Daddy…”

Liam lifted his arm, trembling. “She put the watch in your bag, Miss Emily…”

Silence.

Even the air seemed to freeze.

Richard stopped in the middle of the street.

For the first time, he didn’t look like a billionaire.

He looked like a father realizing he had made a fatal mistake.

“No…” he whispered. “That’s not possible…”

But then Ethan pointed back at the mansion, screaming—

“She’s coming!”

Slow footsteps echoed behind us.

Victoria stood at the gates.

Perfect posture. Calm smile.

And something hidden behind her back.

Richard stepped forward. “Victoria… what did you do?”

Her smile didn’t change.

“They were becoming a problem,” she said softly. “And she was influencing them against me.”

The words hit like ice.

The thing behind her back clicked.

A phone recording.

“Everything they just said… I have proof they’re lying,” she added smoothly. “Children are so easy to manipulate.”

But then Liam whispered something that broke the illusion completely.

“She hurt us… in the dark room…”

Richard’s face changed.

Slowly.

Dangerously.

He looked at Emily.

Then at his sons.

Then at Victoria.

And finally, he said one sentence that ended everything:

“You were never going to be their mother.”

Sirens began to echo in the distance.

Victoria’s smile finally cracked.

And for the first time, she stepped back.
