PART 2 — “The Truth Under the Cast”

Inside the cloth was an old, battered medical hammer.

But that wasn’t what terrified the millionaire.

Attached to its handle was a tiny photograph.

The millionaire stared at it.

A young woman.

Holding a little boy.

His breathing stopped.

“Where did you get that?”

The ten-year-old boy’s eyes filled with tears.

“My mother gave it to me before she died.”

The millionaire slowly sat higher in the bed.

“What was her name?”

The boy whispered her name.

The millionaire’s hands began shaking.

The doctor looked between them, confused.

The boy continued.

“She told me that twenty years ago, you promised to help her.”

The millionaire’s face collapsed.

He remembered.

A young woman had worked for him.

She had discovered something inside his company—something that could have destroyed his reputation.

Before she could expose it, she disappeared.

The millionaire had always believed the secret was buried forever.

But the boy reached into his pocket and pulled out a second object.

A small recording device.

“My mother left me this.”

He pressed the button.

A woman’s trembling voice filled the room.

“If you’re hearing this, my son finally found you.”

The millionaire’s eyes filled with tears.

The recording continued:

“You told everyone my accident was my fault.”

The doctor’s expression changed.

The nurse slowly stepped backward.

The millionaire stared at the boy.

“No…”

The boy stepped closer.

“My mother wasn’t asking you for money.”

His voice cracked.

“She was asking you to tell the truth.”

The millionaire looked down at his moving toes.

Suddenly, he understood.

The boy hadn’t struck the cast to perform a miracle.

He had struck it to prove that the doctors had been wrong about one thing.

The millionaire could feel.

And if he could feel…

Then he had been lying for years.

The boy wiped his tears.

“You offered me one million dollars to heal you.”

He looked directly into the millionaire’s eyes.

“I don’t want your money.”

The room became completely silent.

“I want you to tell everyone what you did to my mother.”

The millionaire’s lips trembled.

Then he reached for the nurse’s hand.

“Call the police.”

The boy stared at him, shocked.

The millionaire closed his eyes.

“It’s time my son knew the truth about his mother.”

The boy froze.

“Your… son?”

The millionaire opened his eyes.

And whispered:

“You didn’t come here to find me. You came here because I am your father.”

THE END.
