But she wasn’t talking to Richard.
She was standing outside a hotel, wrapped around another man.
Then the man turned toward the camera.
Richard stopped breathing.
It was his younger brother.
Someone in the ballroom screamed.
Claire rushed toward Emily.
“TURN THAT OFF!”
Richard grabbed the phone first.
His brother’s voice came clearly through the recording:
“After the wedding, everything he owns becomes easier to control.”
Richard stared at Claire.
“What does that mean?”
Claire said nothing.
Then Emily whispered:
“That’s not the worst part.”
Richard slowly looked down at her.
“There’s more?”
Emily opened another recording.
This one had been filmed inside Richard’s own house.
Claire was sitting at his desk with the same man.
Documents were spread across the table.
Then Claire said the sentence that made Richard completely freeze:
“Once he signs these papers tomorrow, he’ll never know what we took from him.”
Richard looked toward his brother across the ballroom.
But his brother was already backing toward the exit.
Richard shouted:
“LOCK THE DOORS.”
The security guards moved immediately.
Claire began crying.
“You don’t understand!”
Richard stepped closer.
“Then explain it.”
Claire looked around at the hundreds of guests staring at her.
And finally whispered:
“The wedding was never about you.”
