“I gave that necklace to my baby son… the day he disappeared eleven years ago.”
The crowd gasped.
The men in suits rushed forward, but the woman stepped between them and the frightened boy.
“Nobody touches him!” she cried.
The leader slowly lowered an old photograph.
It was the same boy.
He spoke softly,
“Ma’am… we’ve searched for him for eleven years. He’s the missing heir to the Ashford family fortune.”
The boy looked at the woman in disbelief.
“You’re… my mother?”
Unable to speak, she wrapped him in the tightest embrace of her life.
The crowd that had ignored the hungry child moments earlier stood in stunned silence.
The piece of bread she had crushed was forgotten…
But the family she thought she’d lost forever had finally come home.
