The boy placed a tiny voice recorder in Richard Whitmore’s hand.

Richard pressed PLAY.

At first, there was only static.

Then a woman’s terrified voice filled the restaurant.

“Dad… if you’re hearing this, then Margaret found me.”

Richard stopped breathing.

It was Elizabeth.

Older.

Frightened.

But unmistakably his daughter.

The recording continued.

“I didn’t die twenty years ago. Margaret paid someone to make you believe I did.”

Richard’s eyes slowly moved toward the black luxury car parked across the street.

His wife Margaret was supposed to be at home.

Then Elizabeth said something that made the billionaire’s knees nearly buckle.

“She needed me gone because I discovered the truth about your will.”

Richard frowned.

“What will?”

The recording continued.

“Grandfather left forty-nine percent of Whitmore Industries to me. Not to Margaret. She forged the documents after my disappearance.”

The bodyguard stared at Richard.

“That would be worth more than two billion dollars.”

But the recording wasn’t finished.

Elizabeth began crying.

“And Dad… the boy standing in front of you is my son.”

Richard slowly turned toward the child.

The boy’s lips trembled.

Elizabeth’s voice continued:

“His father was murdered six years ago because he tried to expose Margaret.”

Richard’s face hardened.

“Who was his father?”

Then the recording answered him.

“Your former security chief, Daniel Cross.”

The bodyguard stepped backward.

Richard noticed.

“You knew Daniel.”

The bodyguard said nothing.

Richard’s eyes narrowed.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

Suddenly, the boy pointed across the street.

“There!”

A woman in a black coat was standing beside the parked limousine.

Margaret Whitmore.

Richard’s wife of twenty-four years.

She wasn’t alone.

Two men dragged a bound woman from the back seat.

Richard froze.

“Elizabeth…”

His daughter was alive.

Margaret looked directly across the street at her husband.

Then calmly raised her phone.

Richard’s phone rang.

He answered.

Margaret smiled.

“You should have left the dead buried, Richard.”

Richard’s voice became ice cold.

“Touch my daughter and you lose everything.”

Margaret laughed.

“Oh, Richard… you still don’t understand.”

She leaned closer to the phone.

“The company was never the real reason I made Elizabeth disappear.”

Richard went silent.

Margaret looked at the frightened little boy beside him.

Then said:

“Ask Elizabeth who that child’s REAL father is.”

Richard slowly turned toward his daughter.

Elizabeth began screaming through her gag.

And for the first time, the boy noticed that Richard’s hands were shaking.

Because the child had Richard Whitmore’s exact same eyes.
