Part 2 : Daniel could barely breathe.

Emily was alive.

She looked thinner, older, and exhausted—but there was no mistaking her face.

Sophie ran across the ballroom and wrapped both arms around her.

“Mommy!”

Emily dropped to her knees, crying as she held her daughter.

Daniel stared at her in disbelief.

“We buried you.”

Emily slowly looked past him toward Vanessa.

“No. You buried an empty coffin.”

The ballroom erupted in whispers.

Vanessa suddenly moved toward the exit.

Emily stood.

“Don’t let her leave.”

Daniel blocked Vanessa’s path.

“What did you do?”

Vanessa’s composure finally shattered.

“She was supposed to stay gone!”

Silence.

Daniel stared at her.

Emily pulled a small recorder from her coat.

“For three years, she paid someone to keep me hidden. She told everyone I had abandoned my family.”

Vanessa screamed:

“She’s lying!”

Emily pressed play.

Vanessa’s own recorded voice filled the ballroom:

“Once Daniel believes she’s dead, everything will finally be mine.”

Guests gasped.

Daniel stepped away from Vanessa as if she were a stranger.

Then Emily looked at him.

“There’s one more thing you deserve to know.”

Daniel swallowed.

“What?”

Emily looked toward Sophie.

Then toward a teenage boy standing quietly behind her.

“This is Noah.”

Daniel stared at the boy.

Emily’s next words destroyed what was left of the wedding.

“And he’s your son.”
