But that wasn’t what terrified Victoria.
Around the woman’s neck was the exact same diamond necklace Victoria was wearing now.
Daniel whispered, “Victoria, I can explain.”
The little girl interrupted him.
“No. Tell her everything.”
Victoria ripped the necklace from her neck.
“Who is this woman?”
Daniel stayed silent.
Then the girl said something that made the entire room explode with whispers.
“She wasn’t just someone he knew.”
Victoria stared at Daniel.
The girl continued:
“She was his wife.”
Victoria stumbled backward.
“No… Daniel and I have been married for seven years.”
The girl nodded.
“My mother disappeared eight years ago.”
Then an elderly man in the crowd suddenly shouted:
“That’s impossible. I saw her three days ago.”
Everyone turned.
Daniel’s expression changed completely.
Victoria grabbed his arm.
“She’s alive?”
Daniel finally whispered:
“Yes.”
The girl began crying.
“Then why did you tell me my mother was dead?”
Victoria slowly released Daniel’s arm.
Because at that exact moment, two police officers entered the ballroom.
And the man standing beside them said:
