PART 2 — THE PRICE OF KINDNESS

The lights in the diner flickered once.

Once.

Then stabilized.

Ethan turned slightly toward the window. Outside, men in dark suits were now standing near the limousine. Watching. Waiting.

CHEF:
“You’re not here for a visit.”

ETHAN:
“No.”

A pause.

ETHAN (quietly):
“I’m here to warn you.”

The chef stepped forward.

CHEF:
“About what?”

Ethan’s voice dropped.

ETHAN:
“The boy you fed… didn’t stay a boy.”

He turned back.

ETHAN:
“He became a man people fear. And someone just discovered your name is the reason he didn’t disappear completely.”

The chef’s face tightened.

CHEF:
“I never asked for anything in return.”

ETHAN:
“I know.”

Ethan reached into his coat and pulled out a sealed envelope. It was heavy, official, dangerous-looking.

ETHAN:
“They did.”

He placed it on the counter.

The chef hesitated before touching it.

Inside—paperwork, surveillance photos, financial records… and a single line:

“ELIMINATE ALL ASSOCIATED WITNESSES.”

The chef looked up sharply.

CHEF:
“…Witnesses?”

Ethan met his eyes.

ETHAN:
“You didn’t just feed me that day.”

A beat.

ETHAN:
“You changed what I became.”

Outside, the limousine door opened again.

A shadowy figure stepped out.

Slowly walking toward the diner.

ETHAN (under his breath):
“And now they’ve come to correct that mistake.”

The chef looked toward the door.

Then back at Ethan.

CHEF:
“What do we do?”

Ethan’s expression hardened.

For the first time, the man who once cried over a stolen piece of toast… looked like someone who could change the world again.

ETHAN:
“We finish what kindness started.”

The diner door swung open.
