Daniel’s hands trembled so badly he almost dropped the photograph.
It was him.
Ten years younger.
Standing in a hospital room.
Holding a newborn wrapped in a blue blanket.
“I… I don’t remember this,” he whispered.
Ethan frowned.
“Mom said you wouldn’t.”
Before Daniel could ask another question, a woman came running across the garden café.
“Ethan!”
She froze the instant she saw Daniel.
Neither of them spoke.
Finally, Daniel whispered her name.
“Emily?”
Tears filled her eyes.
“I never wanted you to find out like this.”
Daniel stared at her.
“I was told our baby died.”
Emily shook her head.
“No… your father paid the hospital to make you believe that. He wanted to separate us before you inherited the family business.”
Daniel’s knees nearly gave out.
“My father… lied to me?”
Emily nodded.
“He said you’d never stop looking for us if you knew the truth.”
Silence.
Then Ethan quietly stepped forward.
“So…”
He looked straight into Daniel’s eyes.
“Are you really my dad?”
Daniel couldn’t hold back anymore.
He knelt, wrapped both children in his arms, and whispered through tears,
“I’ve been your dad every day…”
“…I just didn’t know where you were.”
As the family embraced, a black luxury SUV pulled up outside the café.
An older man stepped out.
Daniel’s father.
He looked at them… and slowly smiled.
“I see the truth finally found you.”
Daniel stood up, his eyes burning with anger.
“No…”
“It found you.”
THE END
