Ethan’s words hung over the auditorium like a threat.
Nobody moved.
Malcolm Reid looked down at the file in his hands.
The name printed across the first page made no sense.
MICAH REID.
Malcolm read it again.
Then again.
His voice dropped to a whisper.
“Who is Micah Reid?”
Across the stage, Dr. Celia Hart went completely pale.
Julian looked like he was about to be sick.
Ethan slowly raised his hand.
Then pointed toward the first row.
A teenage boy sat between two wealthy families.
Quiet.
Thin.
Dark curls.
Black-framed glasses.
He had been watching everything without saying a word.
Malcolm stared at him.
The boy looked strangely familiar.
Not identical to Julian.
But close enough to make Malcolm’s chest tighten.
“Stand up,” Malcolm said.
The boy didn’t move.
Dr. Hart suddenly shouted:
“He has nothing to do with this!”
Malcolm turned toward her.
“That wasn’t a question.”
The boy slowly stood.
A murmur spread through the auditorium.
Malcolm studied his face.
“Who are you?”
The teenager swallowed.
“My name is Micah.”
Malcolm’s eyes dropped to the file.
“Micah Reid?”
The boy hesitated.
“That’s the name they gave me at birth.”
Julian suddenly shouted:
“Dad, stop!”
Malcolm turned.
“What do you know about this?”
Julian’s face cracked.
For the first time, the confident billionaire’s son looked terrified.
“Everything.”
The auditorium erupted.
Malcolm stared at him.
“You knew?”
Julian nodded slowly.
“Since I was fourteen.”
Malcolm walked toward the stage.
“Then start talking.”
Dr. Hart stepped between them.
“This is a private school matter.”
Malcolm looked at her.
“My family name is on that file.”
He raised the document.
“So it stopped being private.”
Ethan came down from the balcony carrying the folder.
Ivy ran to him and grabbed his hand.
Malcolm opened another document.
A DNA report.
His eyes narrowed.
Two names were printed across the top.
JULIAN REID.
MICAH REID.
Relationship probability:
99.98% — FULL SIBLINGS.
Malcolm stopped breathing.
He looked at Julian.
Then at Micah.
“My son has a brother?”
Julian shook his head.
“Not a brother.”
Malcolm frowned.
Julian looked toward Micah.
“A twin.”
The entire auditorium exploded in gasps.
Malcolm staggered backward.
“No.”
His voice barely came out.
“No, my wife gave birth to one child.”
Ethan opened the folder.
“She gave birth to two.”
Malcolm stared at him.
“How would you know?”
“My mother worked in the hospital records department.”
Dr. Hart suddenly lunged for the folder.
Ethan pulled it away.
Security moved forward.
Malcolm shouted:
“Nobody touches him!”
Dr. Hart stopped.
Ethan continued.
“Your wife gave birth to twins eighteen years ago.”
Malcolm’s hands began shaking.
“One child was sent home with your family.”
He looked toward Julian.
“The other was removed from the hospital records before sunrise.”
Malcolm stared at Micah.
“Who took him?”
Nobody answered.
Then Ivy whispered:
“She did.”
Every eye turned toward Dr. Hart.
Celia’s face hardened.
Malcolm walked toward her.
“You stole my son?”
She shook her head.
“No.”
“Then why is your signature on the discharge file?”
Malcolm threw the document onto the table.
Celia looked down.
Her expression changed.
Ethan pointed at the signature.
“She signed him out under another family’s name.”
Malcolm’s voice became dangerous.
“Why?”
Celia looked at Julian.
Then at Micah.
Finally, she said:
“Because only one of them was supposed to inherit.”
Silence.
Malcolm’s face went blank.
“Inherit what?”
Celia laughed bitterly.
“You think this is about your money?”
Malcolm stepped closer.
“What else would it be about?”
Celia looked directly at him.
“The Reid fortune never belonged to you.”
Malcolm froze.
Julian whispered:
“Dad…”
But Celia wasn’t finished.
“Your father built an inheritance clause into the family trust.”
Malcolm stared at her.
“What clause?”
“If twin male heirs were born, control of Reid Banking would eventually pass to the firstborn.”
Malcolm slowly looked at Julian.
Then at Micah.
“Which one was first?”
Celia said nothing.
Ethan reached into the folder.
He pulled out a sealed birth record.
Dr. Hart’s face collapsed.
“No.”
Ethan tore it open.
Malcolm grabbed the document.
His eyes raced across the page.
Then he looked at Julian.
Julian’s face drained of color.
Malcolm whispered:
“You were born seven minutes later.”
The auditorium went dead silent.
Micah stared at him.
Malcolm slowly turned.
“Then Micah is…”
Ethan nodded.
“The legal firstborn heir.”
Julian suddenly stepped backward.
“No.”
Malcolm looked at his son.
“Julian…”
“No!”
Julian ripped off his graduation gown.
“You don’t understand what they did!”
Malcolm stepped toward him.
“What did they do?”
Julian’s eyes filled with tears.
“They didn’t hide Micah from you.”
Malcolm froze.
“Then who were they hiding him from?”
Julian slowly looked toward the auditorium doors.
Everyone followed his gaze.
The doors opened.
An elderly man entered with two bodyguards.
Malcolm’s face changed instantly.
“Father?”
The old man smiled.
Micah began trembling.
Ethan whispered:
“That’s the man my mother warned us about.”
Malcolm stared at his father.
“What did you do?”
The old billionaire looked at Micah.
Then at Julian.
And calmly said:
“I chose which grandson deserved to exist.”
